Disclaimer: I’m a die-hard Greenwich Villager and Loisiada, and make no bones about the fact that, in my opinion, The Village and Lower East Side are the best neighborhoods in New York City. My maps reflect this biased love – and I’m totally cool with it. These are my stomping grounds, my passion, my point of view.

That said, I love good food, wherever it may live, and I can occasionally be lured above 14th Street, or to the nether lands of the outer boroughs, for truly excellent eats. I would love to hear your comments and opinions about what YOU consider to be the “Best of NYC”. Please share your picks here and I’ll be sure to add them to my list. As much as I love giving suggestions, I love receiving suggestions even more, so dish the scoop. I’m all ears!

Since it’s almost Valentine’s Day, you’ve probably been racking your brain or scouring the web for that perfect romantic dinner spot, some better than average chocolates, and/or an intimate booth to grab a cocktail? Absinthe: The History and Mystery of The Green Fairy

Location: The Study @ Astor Center, NYC
Date: Fri, Jan 21st, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Price: $85.00

“Absinthe is the aphrodisiac of the self.” Or so says Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Banned in the U.S. for nearly a century, absinthe’s relatively recent return to the market has made waves in the spirits world and beyond. It’s a libation shrouded in myth and mystique, blamed for causing everything from blindness to insanity. Here to discuss the lore behind “The Green Fairy”, as well as how it is made and served, is spirits expert Elayne Duke. We’ll taste through the wide range of Absinthe currently available on the US market, and discuss the many ways to enjoy them in classic and modern Absinthe cocktails such as: the Death in the Afternoon (favored by renowned boozer, Ernest Hemingway), the 4th Estate Cocktail, the Sazerac, and the Absinthe Flip.
